Drink Dictionary: Letter S



Steak Sauce: A brownish-red colored tangy sauce. Normal people put this on steak, but as a user of this site it's pretty clear that you will be mixing it with a bunch of alcohol.

Spiced Rum: Spiced rums are blends of golden rums and spices, typically including nutmeg, vanilla, and cinnamon. Think Captain Morgan.

Sake: Commonly known as rice wine due to its alcohol content, sake is technically a Japanese 'beer' (as it is fermented more similarly to beer than to wine).

Sambuca: A licorice-flavored liquor that is more alcoholic than other anise-infused drinks, but is less sugary.

Sangria: A red wine and fruit beverage from Spain.

Schnapps: In the United States, schnapps are drinks which are intensely flavored, very sweet, and typically inexpensive. From the German word meaning 'to snap'.

Scotch: Scottish whiskey.

Sloe: A wild plum used to make Sloe Gin.

Soju: Soju is a 50-proof Korean spirit.

Sour Mix: It's a mixture of lemon juice and sugar syrup that's also called Sweet and Sour Mix or Bar Mix.

Southern Comfort: A 70-proof or 100-proof sweet liqueur with a hint of orange.

Sparkling Wine: A wine containing dissolved carbon dioxide (carbonic acid) which fizzes. Champagne is a type of sparkling wine.

Stout: A dark, strong, thick beer. Stouts often have coffee and chocolate overtones.

Sweet And Sour Mix: A thick, sugar-syrup and lemon juice mix for making drinks.
